Hello
Ticked the first box on the illness card today - as everyone keeps saying, it's something to write home about!
Have had diarrhoea since 3.30am so another night's sleep ruined! It's not anything particularly bad - probably just something dodgy I ate or drank - had a bit of loss of appetite since the plane journey(s) anyway. Have some syrup stuff from the doctors and have been drinking oral rehydration solution (which tastes like Selly Oak swimming pool) - although I've been drinking lots of other things too 'cos that stuff's
revolting.
Swahili's getting much better now so it makes it a lot easier when you can talk to people a bit. Tell Grandpa I had goat for dinner today - very nice kebab actually - probably the tastiest thing I've had (certainly better than drinking sugary brine).
I think the place we're going to on Sunday is actually called Njomba, not Jumbo - so I got it a little bit wrong (oh well, I'm sure I'll see heffalumps on the way to Iringa in three or four weeks - we do pass
through a game park after all). I'm sure I'll see a number of Geoffreys [*ahem* giraffes] too - the gates to the place where we're staying has a couple of Geoffreys on it - thought you'd like to know!!
Went to this "rock garden" today - sounds unimpressive I know, but it's a bit of an understatement - it has a river with big rocks in it, monkeys scurrying around the trees, as well as mosquitoes and a bar, so
it was really nice - we sat round in the garden and played silly games. As you can tell, it's not exactly proper work yet, but we're having a go at the Swahili all the time.
Forgot to say before about the "Head, Shoulders Knees and Toes" Swahili equivalent, but it's more "Head, Tummy, Back, Knees, Chest and Beating Heart"! I'll remember to bring my book up with it in next time I use the Internet (he says!) I assume we'll have internet in Njomba (it's a religious activity centre) - there are Internet cafes all over the place.
By the way, Jenny & Nick - the c/o address will be:
xxxxxSPW addressxxxxx
xxxxxSomething utterly private and none of your businessxxxxx
I think that's about it for the moment.
Kwaheri kwa sasa (bye bye for now)
fleaxxx
